Garry Tonon prepares for his fight against Martin Nguyen at ONE 165. This stacked card for ONE Championship is being held in Tokyo, Japan on January 28th and is probably one of their best fight cards to date for the organization. CountFilms had the honor of getting a pre-fight interview with Garry Tonon for ONE 165 to hear all about his preparation for the fight, his growth as an MMA fighter, and why he’s the best fighter in the game.
Garry Tonon: The Leglocker
It’s no secret that Garry Tonon is known for his incredible leg locking game. The Featherweight MMA clash between 5X EBI champion, Garry Tonan, and Shamil Gasanov ended in a submission via a gnarly knee bar. Now he’s getting ready to faceoff against Martin Nguyen, who he says it’s no secret that his advantage is his strong ground game. But Garry does not underestimate Martin and his MMA skills. Tonon is well aware that Martin is a very strong striker and has been training to defend that and outsmart his opponent.
Tonon further explained how he’s become more well-rounded in his MMA game and that he’s not only strong on the ground but has also improved on his striking game. When asked why he’s one of the best fighters in the game he simply explained “because I’m the most dangerous on the ground.”
