The Japanese kickboxing star signed with ONE Championship back in 2023 and has been awaiting his big debut for months. This weekend the fighter finally gets his chance to make a splash in the largest MMA organization in the world and fight for the Kickboxing World Championship against Thai phenom Superlek Kiatmoo9.

CountFilms got to meet with Takeru and talk about his upcoming fight for ONE 165. Takeru remained humble about his opportunity to cement his name in history at ONE Championship and expressed his endless gratitude at being able to fight for the Kickboxing World Championship Title. He explained that he thinks he’s better than Superlek simply because of his “mental ability and heart” and that will give him the advantage.
Takeru also explained that he’s been training for this fight for 5 months so he is mentally and physically as prepared as he could ever be. He’s eager to have his first fight in Japan with his large fanbase and to make a name for himself on an international platform.

Takeru vs. Superlek
The matchup between Takeru and Superlek is going to be one for the books. Takeru was originally supposed to face Rodtang until he had to withdraw from the fight due to a lingering injury. Once Superlek got announced as Takeru’s new opponent, many fans saw it as an upgrade as Takeru now got to fight for a world title in his ONE Championship debut for ONE 165.
