Danielle Kelly “Can’t Wait to Beat Khan” at ONE Fight Night 14

ONE Fight Night 14, Singapore – It’s media day here in beautiful Singapore and we had the pleasure of interviewing Danielle Kelly about her upcoming bout with Jessa Khan for ONE Fight Night 14. Bouncing in the room all chipper, looking like a Barbie doll with her Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Military Black’, Kelly’s vibrant attitude was infectious. Danielle Kelly is coming off of a two win streak at ONE Championship and has the special opportunity to compete for the first ever ONE Championship Women’s Grappling World Championship Title.

Danielle Kelly Plans to Submit Khan

When asking Kelly how her grappling has evolved since her last bout with Jessa Khan in 2021, Kelly explained that she’s “improved a lot” in the last three years. “She’s a totally different grappler” than she was back then. She anticipates Khan to be “aggressive” but Kelly and her team have “studied her game” and they’re anticipating that Khan will “try to get to her guard or come up for a wrestle up.”

She believes she has an advantage over Khan as she’s been training in this camp “with high level jiu-jitsu girls who have competed with Jessa.” Further, Kelly explained that she’s been working on her “wrestling, top game, bottom game, defense, and counters” that she believes will help her in their upcoming match.

Kelly Predicts that she’ll be able to submit Jessa Khan and will “end the match with a choke.” She ultimately “wants to attack the back and get to her neck” to secure the Grappling World Championship Title.

“[I’m going to] put it all on the line.”

Underdog Mentality

While many have claimed Danielle Kelly as the underdog, she says it’s really motivated her that she “likes being the underdog.” While she knows the fight against Khan will be challenging given she’s facing an IBJJF World Champion, she’s confident in her abilities to handle Khan and “finish her with a choke.”

In training for the fight, Kelly explained that her team has been one of her biggest motivations as they push her to be her very best each and every day. Whether in the cage or personal, her team, especially her corner mate, are always there for her. She’s ready to “put it all on the line” for the “biggest opportunity of her life.”
